Corning, NY

Wednesday, 20. March 2013

After one phone call, we had 1½ hours to get back to our rucksacks, pack them and be on our way to Corning. Thanks to Peter Drobny, we’ve travelled the 400km much faster and easier than we’d anticipated. We are staying with him in Corning and because he had business in New York, he was able to drive us here. He also gave us a tour of the area around Corning and so we found ourselves stomping through the woods among waterfalls and lakes on Saturday.  It wasn’t until Monday that we picked up the thread again and remembered why we had wanted to come to Corning - the Corning Museum of Glass, one of the most important and famous glass museums in the world. As well as an outstanding collection of glass, it also prides itself on an amazing library, containing the best selection of literature on glass in the world. We’re planning to stay for three weeks, here in this ‘glass-maker’s paradise’. The workshop technician is looking after us and has also scheduled time in the library, between the varied tasks that are lined up for us. It definitely won’t be boring here.
