So we didn’t sign up for the convent, as we spontaneously decided to check out some culture in Villach, Austria before we moved on to Italy. Initially we were just looking for somewhere to sleep and inquired at Kärnöl, where a reading in the world’s smallest theatre was taking place. This is where we met Jacob and Käthe from Gailtal who run a guesthouse next to the ski slopes. At the end of the reading we hopped in their truck and after a nice ride, enjoyed a lovely evening full of Jacob’s jokes.

The next day we arrived in Venice where it started to rain and the flood began to rise. It was amusing as everyone was knee deep in water. The entire city was criss-crossed with planks, which got really busy. After two days of unsuccessfully searching for the tool maker Roberto Dona and Elena Rosso, we finally found Elena on Friday and were allowed to sleep in her studio where she makes glass beads.  She is a glass maker and knows all the studios and the Masters on Murano, however only makes beads because a furnace is too expensive. Over the last few days she has shown us all the hidden paths to the workshops on Murano and introduced us to the art of bead making. Tomorrow we will leave the island, because it’s not possible for us to work here even for a week and we have already seen a good many things. Among others, we visited Oskar Zanetti, Furnace Cam und David Fuin.
