Aren’t we lucky, said the boys yesterday, when we arrived in time for Jan-Erik Ritzman’s and Lars‘ birthday with cake. We had left Höör only at 14.30, after we’d taken a spontaneous two day job. The ride back to Transjö, only took us three hours in three different cars. We wouldn’t have been quicker in our own car.

After our night in Ahus we hitchhiked further down along the east coast of Sweden. In the meantime we had both equipped ourselves with a sign each – the first one holding the destination sign, the second one a ‘stop’ sign, which worked very well. In some cases this led to us going even further than we wanted. After having to go back part of the way, we arrived at Anders Wingard’s, who had cleverly set up his glass studio outside. It was really interesting to watch him work under the sun awning and then Louise had worked up enough courage to approach him. He also immediately offered us a bed for the night. The beds are a dream, we slept fantastically well. The next morning we were lucky to get a lift with Karsten; a former campsite owner who had just come from his bank and was on his way to buy a new house in the middle of Sweden. Karsten liked the idea of visiting a few glass studios, before he bought his house at 3pm. He drove us to Elna Jolom who owns a huge farm with all the glass making equipment you could possibly ask for. Chickens and sheep are scattered around this giant property.  From here we were sent to Höör. So the three of us jumped back into the car and Karsten took us to Espen’s cosy glass studio. Espen sat on his chair and asked us if we wanted to have a go at glass making. Sure!!! No-one needs to ask us twice and in no time at all, we were turning the pipes. When Espen realised we could assist him, he put us on a job. This way he managed to get the days work finished and into the cooling chamber and we had earned ourselves a bed for the night. We stayed in his 18th century house, which he is lovingly restoring. He got us thinking why we are on this journey together and how we are going to deal with all the new impressions. Over dinner one topic quickly led to another and so it was 1am before we realised, we had to go to bed.
